Initially set up in 2000 as Big Fish Casting, Gillian Berrie saw a huge gap in the market for Scottish based casting directors. She had cast Lynne Ramsay's 'Ratcatcher' and Ken Loach's 'My Name is Joe', but the reality was that most feature films produced in Scotland were being cast by London based casting directors.
Kahleen Crawford was brought in to assist at the company towards the end of 2000, and in late 2001, Des Hamilton, who had just completed the casting of Lynne Ramsay's 'Morvern Callar', came onboard to cast David Mackenzie's 'Young Adam'(RPC/Sigma Films) and Lone Scherfig's 'Wilbur(wants to kill himself)' (Sigma Films/Zentropa).
In early 2004, the company changed its name to Hamilton + Crawford and subsequently became Kahleen Crawford Casting. Des and Kahleen still work together, primarily on feature films and largely within the UK film industry, but are increasingly involved with productions in Europe and the U.S. They enjoy working with established and new writing, directing and acting talent.
